Parley Clinton Briggs
Devoted husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away on August 28, 2023, at his home with children nearby. The son of Glen Lake Briggs and Edith Thora Reynolds, husband of Julia Patricia McGuire, father of Kathy Brennenstahl, and brother of Theron, Glade, and Melvin Briggs, who all preceded him in death.
Parley (known as Clinton) was born December 22, 1930, in Boise, Idaho. He married Julia P. McGuire, his loving wife of 68 years, April 29, 1952. He is survived by his sons Randy, Kevin, Barry, and Jimmy Briggs, daughters Susan Pfeifer, Brenda Mansfield, and Julia Simonsen, brother Duane Briggs, sister Betty Lou Jensen, 30 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Dad joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 at the age of 17 and during his 4 years of service he traveled to many locations across the Atlantic Ocean, including West Africa. This adventure started his love for life-long learning. He was always well read, loved history, nature, bird-watching, spending time in the mountains, and watching all sports. He seemed to be able to answer any question us kids asked him and taught us many do-it-yourself skills, including car and household maintenance. He gave much time to his parents and siblings, took his family on several fishing trips and his boys to Utah Stars games, and loved to treat his grandchildren to outings. Dad was beloved by his neighbors as well, often doing unasked chores in their yards and keeping his own yard in top condition. On more than one occasion, he stopped at serious road-side accidents and helped to perform life-saving measures on those involved.
He eventually settled down for a career as a civil servant for the U.S Air Force, where he specialized in warehouse logistics and instruction. Dad was honored several times for his outstanding achievements in this career, where he stayed until retirement. He also received multiple recognitions from the Air Force for donating several gallons of his blood during his years at Hill Field Air Force Base. He was always willing to give. With many fond memories, he will be missed!
Graveside Service at 10:00am, September 1, 2023, in the Salt Lake City Cemetery beside his loving wife, Pat.
