Maureen Pearl Parkes Brown

February 7, 1936 — January 17, 2020

Our much-loved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother left this life and stepped into the next on January 17, 2020. She was three weeks shy of her 84th birthday.

Maureen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 7, 1936, to Doyle M. Shepard and Marian Grace Petit. Charles and Oda Parkes welcomed her into their home at the age of 6 and, without hesitation, raised her as one of their own along with their clan of 5 others. This was where she truly belonged.

She met her lifelong love and companion, Jay Gregory Brown, at the tender age of 11 and they began a long and abiding relationship. He was always and forever the only one for her. Engaged while they attended Murray High School, they were married on May 21, 1956, three days after graduation. Together, they raised four children: Leslie Robyn Boisselle (Patrick), Benjamin Scott (Tresa), Paul Russell (Stanley) and Jennifer Susan Wunderlich (Jason). Her life was enriched by her 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren whom she adored.

Maureen was a talented and smart lady who attentively doted on her family. She lived to love them fiercely and abundantly blessed their lives in so many ways. She found joy in making her home and surroundings beautiful wherever she went. Every plant she touched thrived because of her green thumb and her yard was her sanctuary and often the envy of many. Maureen enjoyed serving and was an influence for good in the lives of others with her generous and charitable nature. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she fulfilled various capacities and lived a life replete with dedication to her God and to her religion. She was a vivacious and feisty woman with a strong personality and generous opinions; truly classy...and a bit smart-assy. We truly love her for it.

We will deeply miss our “Pearl” but have found solace in knowing that she is now no longer bound by an aging, imperfect body and that she has been reunited with those angels she has “loved long since and lost awhile.”

Visitations will be held Thursday evening January 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah and on Friday morning January 24, prior to services from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. with her funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m., at the Taylorsville 9th Ward, 2030 West Chateau Avenue, Taylorsville, Utah. Interment will be in Murray City Cemetery, 5490 South Vine Street, Murray, Utah.
