Peggy Smith Buckner 1936-2024
Peggy Smith Buckner, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at her home in West Valley City, Utah. Peggy was born on July 22,1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Don Stallings and Wanda Mary Boulter Smith. She was taken home from the hospital to the very same street where she would live for the rest of her life.
She married the love of her life, Del LeRoy Buckner, on February 19, 1954, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and moved into the home they built together, 3 houses down from her parents on the family farm.
They spent 52 years together, until Del's passing in 2006, raising 8 children during that time.
Peggy loved her family. Being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother brought her great happiness. Each member of her family claimed to be her "favorite", and to her, they all were.
Peggy loved to read and was known for always having a book nearby. She enjoyed flowers, bird watching, camping, and harvesting their garden. Peggy was very talented and specifically excelled in the arts of crochet, and watercolor painting. She was also an avid collector of antiques of many kinds but was partial toward white milk glass.
Peggy is survived by her children, Ray (Nancy), Rex (Brenda), Ken (Shelli), Tod (Suzy), Tim (Jamie), Joy (Jeff); daughter-in-law Carolyn; 22 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; brothers Ralph (Shirley), and Bruce (Diane) Smith.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband Del; children Guy and Mai Lyn; and grandson Daniel.
