Philip Eldon Rees

Philip Eldon Rees, age 93 of West Valley City, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at his daughter's home in Roy, Utah where he had resided the last 8 months. Phil was born May 23, 1924 in Malad, Idaho, son of Philip Morgan and Nellie Brantzeg Rees. He married his eternal companion, Theone Yearsley, July 18, 1945 in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they had five children: Sonja, Dean, Tim, Tom and Mark. After his father's death in 1941 he managed and worked the family farm. When his mother sold the farm he opened a donut shop in Malad where he loved visiting with the merchants and townspeople. He operated the shop for four years and then went to work for Mountain Bell Telephone starting out as a lineman in Idaho. In 1954 he transferred to Utah living in Provo and Orem. In 1957, he transferred to the Mountain Bell Salt Lake City office as an engineer. He retired in December 1983. His hobbies included golf and bowling. He was the secretary of the Delton Lanes Thursday Night Mixed Doubles league for several years. He loved vacationing in Fish Lake Utah. He remodeled bathrooms, kitchens, and bedrooms, poured and finished cement. His family, his neighborhood and friends all benefitted from his talent as a handyman. He was a member of the LDS Church. He served as the executive secretary in several bishoprics. He served several years in the Boy Scout Varsity and Explorer programs. He is survived by his daughter Sonja (Lenny), Roy; sons, Tim (Bonnie), East Aurora, New York and Mark, Roy; daughter-in-law Grayce Rees, Taylorsville; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Gleed, Malad/Pocatello, Idaho. He is preceded in death by his wife Theone; sons, Dean and Tom; granddaughters, Rebecca Weaver and Julie Rees; brothers, Marion and Vaughan; sisters, Maude Harris and Erma Madsen. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, November 4, 2017, 1:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, where viewings will be held Friday, November 3rd, 6-8:00 p.m. and prior to services from 12-12:45 p.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
