Phillip Davis

Phillip C. Davis, 74, passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2025, due to respiratory failure. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Phil lived a life of service, love, and dedication to his family, faith, and passions.

Born on May 17, 1950, in Price, Utah to Vernon W. Davis and Iris Davis Scott, Phil was raised in Kearns and Taylorsville, Utah alongside his mother and stepfather Donald M. Scott and his two brothers, Ralph and John Davis. He graduated from Granger High School before embarking on a decade-long military career in the U.S. Army, where he trained and served in Air Defense Command. His service took him across the world, stationed in El Paso, Texas; Huntsville, Alabama; Uijeongbu (Camp Red Cloud) Korea; White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico; Wuerzburg, West Germany; and Schweinfurt, West Germany.

While still in high school, Phil met and fell in love with his sweetheart, Rebecca (Becky) Cook. They married in February 1971 and spent the first seven years of their 54-year marriage living in West Germany. In 1973, they were sealed for eternity in the Switzerland Temple. They built a loving home and were blessed with four beautiful daughters. He was a loving father who wanted "his girls" to have the things their hearts desired.

Phil was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life.

After his military service, Phil continued his work in the maintenance and repair of guidance and control systems for missiles, launchers, and jet aircraft at Litton Guidance and Control, and later at Northrop Grumman. He took great pride in his work, ensuring the highest standards of precision and excellence.

Beyond his career, Phil was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping and fishing. Some of his fondest memories were of early mornings at Strawberry and Steinaker Reservoirs often joined by his mother and brothers - along with anyone else willing to wake up at 5 a.m. to cast a line.

Phil also loved fast-pitch softball, umpiring girls' competition and high school leagues, as well as men's fast-pitch leagues, from 1996-2009. He was respected for his fairness, knowledge of the game, and enthusiasm on the field, forming lifelong friendships with players, coaches, and fellow umpires along the way.

Phil's sense of humor and his teasing nature made him easy to befriend and beloved by many. His fun and caring personality brought joy to those around him, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Phil is survived by his loving wife, Becky, North Ogden, Utah; daughters, Jennie Christensen, North Ogden, Utah; Marinda Brooks (Regan) West Jordan, Utah; Andrea Martensen (John) Reno, Nevada; and Holly Knackstedt (Kimball) Verdi, Nevada; 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; his brothers Ralph (Judy) Salem, Utah; John (MaryEllen) Henderson, Nevada; Many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service is on Friday, February 21, 2025, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. that morning, followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will take place at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 W 4100 S. West Valley City, Utah.
