Ray Cameron returned to his Heavenly Father, parents and brothers on January 4, 2017. Ray was born on April 8, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Cameron Jr. and Sarah Jane Rindfleisch Cameron. Ray married Lola Mae Smith on August 19, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Ray served in the US Navy as a medical corpsman and then was one of the first male nurses to graduate from the University of Utah. He then served in the Indian Health Service branch of the Public Health Service providing healthcare to Native Americans in Gallup, NM, Talihina, OK, and Chinle, AZ., retiring at the rank of captain. He concluded his career at the Utah Department of Health. Ray was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings throughout his life. Ray is survived by his wife Lola; sons Sherman (Susan), Paul (Anne), Ronald (Vikki), Scott (Tarya); daughter Sarah; and seven grandchildren: Lauren, Elizabeth (Colby Nash), Hannah, Ahmari, Bradley, David, and Daniel; and two great-grandsons, Archer and Conrad. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers John (Jack), Harold, and Glenn. The family would like to thank Visiting Angels for their care of Ray. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 9, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at the Hunter East Stake Center chapel, 5000 West Pavant Avenue (3710 S.), West Valley City. Friends and family may call Sunday, January 8 from 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville and Monday morning from 10:00-10:40 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
