Ray Hintze

July 17, 1931 — August 2, 2024

Ray Sears Hintze, a longtime resident of Davis County, Utah passed away peacefully of natural causes at the age of 93 in Taylorsville, Utah on August 2nd, 2024.

Born July 17, 1931, in Elberta Utah, Ray was the 11th and youngest child of Henry Herriman and Ethel Irene Sears Hintze and is preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and two sisters, one daughter, and one grandson.

Ray married Dawna Howlett (now deceased) in July 1953. He was drafted into the US Army in March 1955, eventually serving in a non-combat role near Nuremberg Germany. While in Germany, Ray and Dawna adopted their first child, an infant German girl they named Kathie (Kirk Taylor). Three more natural children were added to the family over the coming years, Peggy Ann (died in infancy), Jim (Joanne) and Bonnie (Nate Vandertoolen). Ray and Dawna's marriage lasted until 1968.

In 1969, Ray married Gloria Riding (now deceased) who brought four additional children into the family: Jeff, Scott (Pam), Todd (Teri) and Kim (Scott Maybee). Suzi (Mike Nessler) arrived later in 1971.

Another "son," Paul Androwsky (Ruth), a foster son, is also part of the surviving family.

In 2004, after Gloria's passing, Ray and Lorna Van Orman (formerly Erickson) were married and together enjoyed Ray's remaining 20 years. Ray's group of nine and Lorna's own group of nine, together with spouses and children and grandchildren, combined to make quite a blended family!

A graduate of Granite High School and the University of Utah, Ray taught history at Davis High School in Kaysville Utah for 32 years until his retirement in 1993. As the football announcer, Ray was the voice of Davis High football for many years, even after his retirement.

Ray enjoyed living and spent his free time traveling the world, boating with family and friends, riding horses, hunting, playing a good game of Hearts, watching his favorite teams compete - BYU and the NY Yankees, and enjoying a nice, cold Diet Coke. He was always good for a joke and his cheerful disposition endeared him to his many friends. He will be missed.

Ray was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in whatever he was called to do. He also served three full-time senior missions, one with Gloria to Seattle Washington and two with Lorna to Harrisburg Pennsylvania and then to Adelaide Australia, and one final three-year calling as a guest service missionary at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.

Ray is survived by his current wife, Lorna, a combined 18 children, 63 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren (plus twins coming soon), and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
