Reed E. Petersen Woodeye Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully August 21, 2011 after a long illness. Reed was born January 24, 1942 in Logan, Utah to Olean and Margaret Petersen, the second child of six. Growing up in Salt Lake City he learned to love the great outdoors and worked his trade as a carpenter, both of which his father had a great influence. While attending Granite High School, he met his first love, Bonnie Ross, and they married September 19, 1959. From this union was born his only child, a daughter, Cindy. Shortly thereafter his wife became ill and died suddenly and he found himself a widower at a young age. On July 11, 1969 he married Shirley Sutton, his beloved Red , a loving romance that lasted 42 years until his passing. In 1972 he joined the Carpenters Union and later would enjoy teaching the trade throughout various points in his life, first at Job Corp and then later in life at Salt Lake Community College. His passions in life included boating and fishing trips with his wife, many trips to Alaska to hunt moose, and traditional elk and deer hunts with family and friends. He was a long time member of F.O.E. and the Magna Gun Club. He was an avid trap shooter and earned his way onto the 2007 Senior State team, an accomplishment he was very proud of. Reed will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Garden Terrace for their care of our father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Cindy (James) Dickson; grandchildren: Forrest, Cliffton and Myriah; brothers: Wayne (Eileen), Steve (Jenny), Dale (Diane) Petersen; sisters: Peggy (Dean) Pettit, Nancy (Carlton) Watkins; and by Shirley s daughters, Sharon Crandall and Susan Christensen Nelson; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild.
