Reed V. Bowen 1926 ~ 2011 Reed Vern Bowen, 84, of West Valley City, Utah, died peacefully at home on October 26, 2011, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on December 15, 1926, in Coalville, Utah to Katie LaRue Lamb and George Edward Bowen, Jr. He met his wife and sweetheart, Marilyn, at the Clover Leaf Dairy in SLC, where they both worked. They were later married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 7, 1952. Reed served as a US Marine in World War II, from 1944 to 1947, when he was honorably discharged. He then served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Southern California. He retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years as a letter carrier. He was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served, among many other callings as Bishop of the Jordan North 4th Ward. His motto was When Reed works, everyone works. When Reed plays, everyone plays. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting, swimming, and especially playing with his children. He adored his wife and sweetheart, Marilyn. And he loved the gospel and reading the scriptures. Reed is survived by his wife, Marilyn; their children, Noel (Kathy) Bowen, Terah (Scott) Perry, Sanda (Brian) Flint, Dana Bowen, Neena Bowen and Austin (Lisa) Bowen, as well as their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the Jordan North 4th Ward, 4270 South Falcon Street (4145 West). Viewings will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and on Saturday at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
