Our loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, Rex Thomas Mackay, age 96, left our loving arms back into the arms of his sweetheart on February 15, 2014, surrounded by his loving and grateful family. Rex was born in Murray, Utah on February 7, 1918. He married Mary Ethel Smith June 30, 1937 in the Salt Lake Temple. Rex was best known as "Grandpa Mackay". He enriched our lives with his wonderful sense of humor and his memories. Rex served his country in WWII, was involved in the scouting program for over 40 years with his wife Ethel, was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as Bishop, on the Stake High Council, and in his later years, a mission to South Carolina with Ethel. Survived by children: Samuel Earl (Caroline), Rex Thomas Jr. (Jayne), Roger Lee (Kim); sister, Mary Camden; 19 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 34 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; daughter, Catherine; sons, Robert and M. Ray; brothers: Marvin, William, Rulon, Leslie and Glen; grandson, Jonathan Hickam. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Hewwood Ward, 5643 South 2200 West. Viewings will be held Friday, February 21, 2014, 6 8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Saturday at the church, 9 10:45 a.m. Interment, Murray City Cemetery Place of Birth:Murray, UtahPlace of Death:Salt Lake City, UtahOccupation:Scouting
