After 85 years, Rex was unexpectedly called to heaven on November 12,2021 with his loving eternal companion Claudia, and family by his side.
Rex is survived by his wife of 64 years, Claudia Webb Turner; children: Charlotte (Jim) Kent, Dixie (Dwayne) Ewell, Loreen (Rick, deceased) Barney and Steven (Linda Velasquez) Turner; 26 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother: John R “Jack” (JoAnn deceased) Turner; sisters: Kay (J. deceased) Jennings and Carla (Jim) Mantle.
Preceded in death by grandson, Gavin Demont Ewell.
Dad was born on January 20,1936 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Benjamin John Turner and Elva Marie Marriott Turner. At the age of 8, his family moved to Sandy, Utah. Rex graduated from Jordan High and attended the University of Utah. Dad married Claudia Webb in the Salt Lake Temple on May 27,1957.
Rex worked for Kennecott Copper Mine retiring after 30 years. He then worked for Granite School District for 10 years. Rex served in the Utah Army National Guard Reserves during the Korean conflict. During his adult life, he taught guitar lessons and with his love of music, he preferred his steel guitars over his other guitars.
At the age of 15, Rex became an Eagle Scout. As scoutmaster of BSA troop 225 he taught outdoorsmanship and life principles while preparing young men to earn their Eagle Scout rank. Rex and Claudia served a service mission in Salt Lake City. Rex was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served the Lord in many callings.
Viewing on Friday, November 19, 2021, from 6-8:00 pm at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Rd. Taylorsville, UT. Funeral service on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 12:00 pm including a viewing from 10:30-11:30 am, at the Kearns 4th Ward, 4232 West 5015 South, Kearns, UT. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
