Richard Kent Ahlstrom

Richard Kent Ahlstrom was born to Charles Harland and Hester Henderson Ahlstrom on November 17, 1949 in Delta, Utah. He died at the age of 70, on May 11, 2020 surrounded by his family in Tooele, Utah.

He attended West High School and the University of Utah.  He served a valiant mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Japan Mission from 1969 – 1971.

Richard earned a second degree black belt in Taekwondo.  He loved teaching karate classes, especially to his own children and grandchildren.  He enjoyed fishing, hiking, and any kind of exercise.

He worked for 35 years for the United States Postal Service.  He retired early due to his struggle with Parkinson’s Disease, which he lived with for over eleven years.

Richard served faithfully in many different church callings throughout his life. They included Sunday School teacher, Nursery leader, Cub Scout leader, Young Men leader, Elders Quorum President, Bishopric, Executive Secretary, Stake High Council, and when his health declined, he simply served by sharing his testimony regularly of the Savior.  Most importantly, he was a faithful husband and loving father.

He is survived by his wife Kim Shelton Ahlstrom; his four children, Scott (Rosiane) Ahlstrom, April (James) Gull, Tamra (Robert) Stewart, and Spencer (Jennifer) Ahlstrom; along with 12 grandchildren; his brothers, Steven, Delbert, Mark, Paul; and his sisters, Ruth, Alison and LuJean.

Private family services will be held. Interment, Wasatch Lawn South Valley.
