Richard Alfred Grant

April 4, 1941 — May 22, 2011

Richard Alfred Grant Dick Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, husband and friend, Richard (Dick) Alfred Grant, 70, passed away May 22, 2011 in Mesquite, Nevada. Born April 4, 1941 to Richard W. and Dorothy Vander Waag Grant in Granger, Utah. Married Shirley Ann Thomas November 29, 1958. Their marriage was solemnized November 29, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple. Dad retired from Wasatch Electric in Salt Lake City in 2001. Mom and Dad moved to Mesquite to improve their health conditions and enjoy the sunshine. Mom passed away in 2005. Dad loved her dearly and was lost without her. We obviously didn t get to see Dad fall in love with Mom, but we were blessed with being able to see him fall in love with Julie. Julie became the gift that God gave our family. As dad s health began to decline, she tirelessly took care of him, creating a beautiful home and being there for him every second. Dad was always a gentle giant. We always knew you didn t want to be in trouble with him and at the same time, this huge man had a huge heart that easily melted. Dad would cry at the movies, he would cry when he hugged you hello, and he would sob when he told you goodbye. You did not wonder if he loved you. You felt it with every part of your soul. Dad was blessed with a beautiful bass singing voice and performed in musicals, quartets and ward choirs. He was a devoted and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities as well as an ordinance worker in the St. George Temple. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; and children, Lynn and Melissa. Survived by wife, Juli; son, David; daughter, Lori (Mike) Kelsey; step-daughter, Angela (Fa'afo'i) Aiono; as well as grandchildren: Brandon Grant, Jadie (Dallas) Hunt, Cole Kelsey, Ryeley and Raines Kelsey and Ian and Avian Aiono; brothers: James (Bonnie) Grant, Steve (Shauna) Grant; sisters: Linda (Don) Little, Sandra (Brian) Low and Dianne (Craig) Phillips; and several nieces and nephews.
