Richard Austin

Richard Lynn Austin, loving husband, father, grandpa, and brother sadly passed away on August 2, 2023, in Ogden, Utah.

Richard was born on October 3, 1951, to Duane and Evelyn Austin in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Richard graduated from Granite High School in June of 1970, and went on to graduate from Weber State University in June of 1977 with a bachelor's degree in sociology.

Richard met the love of his life Donna in 1986, and after dating for only 3 months they were married on December 13, 1986, and were together for the next 37 years until the time of his death.

Richard drove for Greyhound Bus for more than 25 years. Richard retired from Greyhound and went on to drive bus for Regional Transit in Sacramento, California, where he drove for the next 11 years. After retiring from R.T., Richard and Donna made their forever home in Ogden, Utah.

Richard loved being active. He spent many hours a day walking, running, swimming, hiking, and listening to Mike Malloy. During the rest of Richard's spare time, he volunteered at the Union Station in Ogden, Utah, where he loved to teach people about trains, his other true passion. Richard loved to travel, especially to Mexico.

Richard leaves behind his wife Donna, his children Tammy Bradford, Timothy (Melanie) Birch, Travis Austin, and Rachel Austin; his four brothers Dennis (Anne), Kevin (Theresa), Gary, and Kelly (Angela); his 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father - Duane, mother - Evelyn, father-in-law - David, mother-in-law Geraldine, and brothers-in-law Terry and Jerry.

 

A viewing will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at McDougal Funeral Home on 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

Richard requested that he be cremated.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at his home in Ogden, Utah, from 2:00 - 5:00 pm where we will have a BBQ. Everyone is welcome. For more information and address, please call or text his wife Donna.
