Richard Bryan Roethel, devoted husband, loving father, and adored grandfather passed away on May 11, 2016. His time on Earth ended peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Bryan was born February 11, 1953 in Salt Lake City, UT to Carl J. and Dorothy Cude Roethel. He was raised in the Canyon Rim area along with his elder sister Cris Baker (Rod). Due to Dorothy's untimely death, Bryan was later blessed to expand his family to include stepmother Gaylene Roethel, step siblings Shannon Salt (Matthew), Marianne Wilson, and Kelly Bennion (Debbie), followed by their baby brother Paul Roethel (Jessica). He met the love of his life Taunie Rae Gunnell in St. George, UT in 1975. They were married in 1976, and later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. His passing was three days shy of their 40 th anniversary. They were blessed with three beautiful children Richard Marcus (Kelli), Millcreek, Dustin Tyler, Taylorsville, and Kelsee Paige Johnston (Ian), Kaysville. Bryan's top priority was his family, and we all know the greatest joy of his life came later with his five grandchildren, MaKayla, Cru Richard, Canon Bryan, Sloane and Adelaide. Bryan was a very supportive and involved father and "Bampa". He enjoyed every second of time spent together with his family. He graduated from Skyline High school in 1971 and later attended Salt Lake Technical College and the University of Utah, where he studied automotive tech. His interest in the automotive industry led him to a career with Frank Edwards Co. for 39 years. Bryan's love for the motor industry kept him interested in motorcycles of all types from his youth up to his Harley Davidson. He purchased his first Harley in 2005 and it became his passion. There were many trips taken and enjoyed with friends and family exploring many highways across the country. Bryan loved to travel and explore new places along with his wife and family. They recently took a trip with his dear friend and brother-in- law Randy Gunnell (Susan) to Maui, Hawaii. Bryan had a passion for the beach and never tired of seeing a beautiful ocean sunset. Bryan was well loved by all who knew him. His greatest sense of fulfillment was being in the service of others. He always wanted to "lighten the load" of those in need. His tender heart was never more apparent than in his love for animals, in particular his many Boston Terriers. The void he has left in our heart is huge, but we are comforted to know that we are a forever family.
