Richard Thomas

Our loving father Richard (Rick) Bert Thomas passed away while surrounded by his family on September 18, 2024, in Bountiful, Utah. He was born on November 23, 1940, to parents Marjorie Winn and Bert Edwin Thomas in Payson, Utah. Rick spent his early childhood in Eureka, Utah and his primary years moving between Utah and Arizona with his family.

Rick's high school years were spent in Moab, Utah where he met and married his eternal sweetheart Bonnie Francis Keating on August 29, 1959. They later moved to the Granger/West Valley area. Together they had seven children. Rick's life was filled with his family enjoying the outdoors camping, boating, riding motorcycles and many other recreational activities.

Along with his talents as a handyman and the willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone, Rick's true gift was being able to play music by ear. Having never learned to read a note, he was able to entertain family and friends playing piano, guitar, banjo, and the ukulele right up until he passed.

Rick was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His most beloved callings were to serve and mentor the young men.

Rick is survived by his wife and six of his children, Phillip Tyrone Thomas, (Florence), Tracey Annette Thomas, Shaunna Lynn McCleve (Douglas), Bonnie Jean Nordfelt (Shane), Mary Samantha Schreck (Tim), and Megan Christina Thomson (Shawn); 10 grandchildren and 9.5 great grandchildren; his sister Shauna Brereton (Bill), and brother Dusty Thomas.

Rick is preceded in death by his son, Richard Troy Thomas, his parents, grandparents and a granddaughter.

Rick's family would like to thank the loving and attentive staff of Legacy House in Bountiful and Inspiration Home Health & Hospice for the care provided to him over the last two years.

A viewing in Rick's honor will be Friday, September 27, 2024, at 1PM followed by a funeral at 2PM at McDougal Funeral Home 4330 South Redwood Road Taylorsville, Utah. Interment, Valley View Cemetery, 4335 W. 4100 S, West Valley City, Utah.
