Our kind, generous and loving Roben Jordan Schafer, age 80, died August 6, 2021 from Covid-19 pneumonia, at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Roben was born on July 10, 1941 to Arthur Jay and Ida Angell Millet Schafer in South Salt Lake, Utah. He was the third of nine children.
Roben married his soul mate, Mary Jaramillo, on June 24, 1978. Later, they were married in the Catholic Church. She was the love of his life, and they had a very special relationship.
Roben was full of life and accomplished many goals that he set for himself. He was very motivated in whatever he did. He read a lot of self-motivating books to help him in his journey through life. He graduated from Murray High School and attended one year of college. He was in the United States Air Force from 1975 through 1981 and went to the USAF School of Applied Aerospace Sciences.
Roben was a Salesman for the majority of his life as he enjoyed talking to people and earning a living at the same time. He loved life to the fullest and everything it had to offer. He liked exploring and trying new things just for the challenge of it. Roben was always very witty, had a great sense of humor and could always make you laugh. He loved going to Wendover to play the slot machines. This was one of his many passions in which he took great pleasure in.
Once he retired, he and his wife, Mary would play the board game of Parcheesi for several hours each day, or a game of Canasta. He was a very loving husband and father and was very family oriented. Each spring and summer he would attend his children’s baseball and softball games as he enjoyed watching them play and would travel no matter how far he had to go to watch them play. Each year when it was time to sell and deliver the Girl Scout Cookies, he would take his daughter around and encourage her to do the best job she could. This is something he always looked forward to. He watched the Jazz games whether they won or lost as this was another passion of his. He was always full of fun, vigor, and love for everyone. He will be dearly missed by anyone who knew him.
Survivors: wife Mary; children Roben A., Terrienne, Jerry, Charlotte; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters Dawnette, Larena; brother Ferrell; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
