Robert Anthony Fernandez 1936 ~ 2014 Robert Anthony Fernandez, 77, passed away on February 4, 2014 in West Valley City, Utah. He was born on October 31, 1936 in Trinidad, Colorado to Lonicio Fernandez and Beatrice Cordova Fernandez. Bob grew up in the area surrounding Trinidad, Colorado. He attended Holy Trinity High School where he participated on a State Championship Football Team. He left school at an early age to work in mining exploration to help support his family. He was later drafted into the Army where he served in Ludwigsburg, Germany as a medical Corpsman. In 1962 Bob met his sweetheart, Elaine Talbot and they were married on May 4, 1963 in Bountiful, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on February 17, 1965. Bob was a dedicated employee and worked many years in the drilling and steel industry and later retired from Mark Steel Corporation. He was an active and devout member of the LDS church and served in many callings. Throughout his life neighbors and friends were the recipients of his unselfish service and he was recognized by many as the "go to guy" that could fix anything. Bob had a wide variety of interests and hobbies including hunting, fishing and spending time with his family in the outdoors. He loved working in his yard and looked forward to planting his garden each Spring producing an abundance of vegetables each season. He was most happy when surrounded by his family and always there to support them in all of their activities. His zest for life will live on in all who knew him and he will be greatly missed. One of his latest passions was restoring his 1968 Ford Bronco. His final moments were spent taking care of his beloved horse Quatro de Mayo. Preceded in death by his mother, father, two brothers (Rudy and David) and one sister (Francis). He is survived by his wife Elaine, daughter Lisa (Dave) Almond of West Valley City, Utah and two sons Sean (Besilyne) Fernandez of Vineyard, Utah and Jared (Marci) Fernandez of Riverton, Utah. Also, three sisters Jennie (John) Sanchez of Surprise, Arizona and Yvonne (Ron) Parietti of Littleton, Colorado and Roberta Petterson of Las Vegas, Nevada, numerous nieces and nephews and ten loving grandchildren. The funeral services will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at the Colony Ward, 4251 South 4800 West, West Valley City, Utah. Friends and family may call at the McDougal Funeral Home at 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2014, or at the church prior to the funeral from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Valley View Memorial Park.
