Robert B Andrus

March 13, 1947 — January 18, 2018

Robert B. Andrus born March 13, 1947 passed peacefully at home on Thursday January 18,2018, surrounded by family and friends. He was the youngest of 5 boys of Benjamin W. Andrus and Ruth R. Brown. He graduated from Jordan High School. He completed his advanced degrees at the University of Utah. He served a mission in the France-Toulon Mission. He began his teaching and football coaching career at Milford High. He then transferred to Jordan High where he continued teaching and was the head football and wrestling coach. Afterwards, he taught for 20 years at Salt Lake Community College as well as managing the physical facilities there. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many teaching capacities and as choir director. He had a beautiful tenor voice that was enjoyed by not only the members, but also many of his friends and associates. Robert and his wife, Mai loved working with orchids. They were members of the American Orchid Society, and together they created and provided many orchid displays for Stake conferences and the Orchid Society. HE was recognized as the top orchid grower in the Western United States and was awarded the " Best Orchid Grower in the World." This was quite an accomplishment for a non-professional grower. He developed his own variety of orchids including the one named after hid dear wife "Mai Short Sweetheart". Survived by his loving wife, Mai; older brother Ray Andrus (Delfa); Bonnie Andrus ; children Ben Andrus and Kim, Robbie (Heather) Andrus, Shelly Andrus, Karri Postma and Bobby, Jeff Pace, LeAnna Pace, Deborah Pace, Heidi (Skylar) Pace and grandchildren. The family would like to thank Robert's caregivers including Adam, who became a close and dear friend. Bridger who considered him his dear friend. Amy who always made him laugh while caring for him and his hospice nurse Kirk. Special thanks to Grant and Jane Nielson for theirwillingness to help when they were needed. The family would also like to thank the numerous friends and neighbors who have been so kind, helpful and supportive, especially Rick Stringer, who Robert considered his "Special Angel". Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 24th at 11:00 a.m. at the Elm Creek Ward, 8539 South 2200 West, West Jordan, Ut. Viewing will be held 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery, 7800 South 1300 West.
