Robert "Bob" Thomas Fonger

February 22, 1944 — February 24, 2017

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend returned to his Heavenly Home on Friday, February 24, 2017 at age 73. Robert was born into a loving close-knit family on February 22, 1944. As a young boy, he loved playing baseball. He graduated in 1962 from Cyprus High School where he was on the competition swim team. Robert accepted the call to serve his country and fought during the Vietnam War in the Army. After returning, he completed his Bachelor of Science at SUU. Robert spent a few years working at Kennecott before accepting his true calling as a Murray City Firefighter. He honorably served those he worked with and the community he lived in. In June 1975, he married his sweetheart Denise Nielsen. Their marriage was later solemnized for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple. Together they loved traveling across the United States and discovering new places. They especially enjoyed many trips to Yellowstone National Park. They raised two wonderful children who were they joy of their life until their six grandkids came along and took the spotlight. Bob's pride and joy was watching his grandkids develop their talents. He never missed their many soccer games, music concerts, dance performances, and school functions. Robert loved gardening, serving others, and his faith. He spent his life giving service and random acts of kindness to his family and those in his neighborhood and church. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Elizabeth Fonger; and his brothers Richard, Floyd, and Hy. He is survived by his wife Denise Fonger; his children Eric (Tracy) Fonger, Julie (Edgar) Rodriguez; his sister Kathleen; and all of his grandchildren.
