Robert Bringelson Brown

June 24, 1922 — October 21, 2018

"Bob", age 96, was born June 24, 1922 in Provo, Utah and died October 21, 2018 in South Jordan, Utah. He and his eternal companion, Ethel Dot Johnson Brown, had two children William "Bill" Brown (Darlene) and Susan "Sue" Harrison (Pat). They gave him 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and some great-great-grandchildren. He loved them all. Bob was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. Bob lived most of his years, including his growing up years, in Southern California (Redondo Beach and Anaheim). When Disneyland opened in 1955, Bob and Dot proudly called their home the "Disneyland Hotel" and hosted many, many guests. The extended family and many friends have fond memories of vacations spent with the Browns. Their home was very open as they not only had vacationers but also had longer staying guests such as grandchildren and nieces who spent the summer with them while working in California. They hosted several unwed mothers during their pregnancy who were making plans for adoption. They hosted a Vietnamese refugee family who learned about indoor plumbing and how to use a vacuum cleaner. Bob was multi-talented. He worked most of his career as an aircraft electrician, building, testing and repairing electronic components on aircraft (and one submarine). He received several company awards for inventions that he created to improve the products and the process. He was an accomplished artist, painting in several mediums. He did a lot of woodworking, from making cabinets, carving small statuary and making decorative bowls, etc. He liked to sing and play the guitar or mandolin. He enjoyed writing, mostly letters and short stories that contained a lot of humor. He compiled many of them into a book titled "The Cat Came Back". Much of his art was regular kind of stuff such as landscapes, children and dogs but some of it reflected his sense of humor, i.e. a very worn out Santa on December 26th and a painting of a young boy standing in front of an outhouse painted on a toilette seat lid. While building something out of wood he came across a large knot that made the board unusable. He cut the knot out, framed it, varnished it and toll painted the following words, "This knot was to come to naught. It ought not, I thought." He loved to play games with the family. He will be missed, but we take great joy in the knowledge that he has rejoined with his beloved wife and he is no longer experiencing the pain and discomfort of old age. A viewing will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, 10:00-10:45 a.m. with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m., at Taylorsville Gardens 2nd Ward, 4252 S. Bennion Road, Taylorsville, UT 84129.
