Robert D. Smith Grandpa Our amazing father, grandfather, great- grandfather, uncle and brother, Robert Dean Smith, peacefully slipped away in his sleep Sunday, March 24, 2013; reuniting with his love, Betty. The son of Ruby Trovillo and Harvey Clifford Smith, he was born June 27, 1930 in Stronghurst, Illinois. He married Betty Jane Scott January 1, 1957 in Downey, California. They had two beautiful daughters: Jane Lancaster and JoAnne Smith. He kept a picture of his little girls in his wallet, which he always carried with him. Grandpa was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. He was a jack of all trades and happiest when he was busy. He loved work - District Manager for Winchell's, owner of Betty's Donut Shop and Maintenance Supervisor at Ivy Place to name a few. He was a hard worker but always had time for his family. He was lovingly cared for over the years by his granddaughter, Carisa Hoffman, and her family. They took great care of him and gave each and every day of his life meaning and purpose. You can always count on Grandpa is a plaque that hangs in his home, and it described him perfectly. He always had a story, including a plan to escape from the hospital in a wheelchair. Grandpa, we'll cherish your stories and the memories you left us with, we love you and will miss you! He is survived by daughters Jane Lancaster (Garry, the son he always wanted) and JoAnne Smith; brother William Bud Smith; sisters Doris Dotty Hartman, Ethyl Karl and Karen Schultz; grandchildren: Rochelle Lee (Anthony), Carisa Hoffman (Brent), Amber Henderson (Mark), Amy Miller (Rodney), Heather Burrows (Thomas), Cami Rowley (Jordan), Daniel Lancaster, Kevin Lancaster, John Scott Bolinder (Alice), Kim Phung (Lou), Jenny Adams (Mike), Brandon Bolinder (Katie); and a special niece Diane Brown (Tom); and 36 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; parents; siblings Myrle Vandenplas, Dale Smith, Cheryl Smith and Louie Smith. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 28, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road where a viewing will be held Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
