Robert Louis Wendland January 2, 1931 ~ June 17, 2014 West Valley City, Utah Robert Louis Wendland, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather died peacefully in his home on June 17, 2014 surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with cancer. Robert was born in Butternut, Wisconsin in 1931. He served our country, during the Korean War, from 1949-1954. After returning he joined the Park Falls Police Department. He later worked for the Milwaukee Police Department as well. He left this profession to become a long haul truck driver and did so for the next 30 years. During this time he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. In his retirement he continued to work and drove for a local bus company. He resided in Salt Lake City from 1979-2014. Robert always stayed busy with various projects in his garage and shed. He loved to barbecue outside, drink his beer, work on vehicles and his semi-truck, and help family, friends, and neighbors with just about any project. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; Louis A.and Ethel Smart Wendland, his brother, Bud and sister, Ida. He is survived by his wife Lori (Skawinski), children; Sue Bellmore (Steve), Tom, James, Kim Allen, Bobbi Rice (Clayton), siblings; Nora Palecek (Lloyd), Patricia Zach (Dick), Donald, grandchildren; Josh, Brett, Beau, Ethan, Kelsey, Samantha, Lindsey, and numerous nieces and nephews. He did not wish for a public memorial service. Private services were held with immediate family members. Final interment will be in his hometown at Butternut Cemetery.
