Ronald Lee Andersen, 89, of Taylorsville, Utah, passed away December 30, 2024. Ron was the third of five children born to Dan and Mildred Andersen on October 20, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married the love of his life, Joan Overly, on July 12, 1956, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together they raised their 4 children, Rod (Janet), Julie (Scott), Jill (Bruce), and Todd (Wendy), in Rose Park and Taylorsville, where they made many lifelong friends and memories.
One of his favorite passions was traveling the world with his wife and friends. Spending time with family was very important. He instilled in his family a love for spending time together and making memories to last a lifetime.
Ron loved serving the Lord in many different callings. A few of his most memorable callings were serving as Bishop, Inner City Missionary with his wife, and in a Student Ward Bishopric. He was loved by those he served.
One of Ron's greatest talents was his love for people. He made everyone feel like they were his best friend. There wasn't anyone he wouldn't stop and talk to and he could light up a room with his laugh and loving personality.
He cherished the opportunity he had to serve his country in the Utah Air National Guard. Ron spent his entire working career at Mountain Fuel Supply Company, beginning as a meter reader and retiring as Industrial Tech Foreman. He was loved and respected by his co-workers. After retirement, he worked at Marv Jensen Fitness Center as a handyman, where he enjoyed helping and visiting with the patrons.
Ron loved participating in sports whether he was playing racquetball, talking about sports, or watching his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids play. He was his kid's biggest fan. They always knew when grandpa was in the stands; they could hear him questioning the umpire's call.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, parents Dan and Mildred Andersen, siblings Dan Wayne Andersen, Coralee LeCheminant, JoAnn Cummings, Craig Andersen, and great-grandson Jax Andersen Manning. Survived by his 4 children, 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
We love and appreciate the love and care Ron received from Carlee Atkinson. She became a dear friend who went above and beyond in caring for him. We appreciate the love, support, and help he received from the staff at Legacy Assisted Living Center in Taylorsville. They treated him like family. He loved visiting with the staff, and residents, and he made many new friends. Thanks to Aspire Hospice for their loving care the last 3 months. We appreciate the love and support from the Taylorsville 12th Ward for helping with the Celebration of Life.
