Ronald Ervin Black

Our Father Ronald Ervin Black, 84, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather passed away peacefully July 26, 2021, surrounded by his beloved wife Zelda, daughter Cindy, and many who loved him and cared for him.

He was born April 2, 1937, in Farmington, NM, to William Morley & Elda Jane Black.

Preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Devon Morley Black, Francis J Black, Martin Aroe Black; two sisters: Marie Cook, Janet Woodruff; and his granddaughter Teresa Barrett.

Ronald’s family later moved to Blanding, Utah, where he grew up surround by many friends and lots of relatives. His father, William Morley, passed away when Ronald was only two years old. Elda Jane Black, his mother, was left with four boys and two girls to raise independently. Times were hard for the family, and all had to work to help. Ronald worked in the sawmills with his brothers as he was old enough. At the age of fourteen, Ronald was suffering from severe hay fever, so his mother decided that they needed to move to Salt Lake City for a change of climate with his younger sister Janet.

Ronald continued with his education and graduated from West High School. He worked very hard to help his mother and his sister Janet. He was always good at helping his brothers and sisters all through life.

A few years after high school Ronald met the love of his life Zelda Bryte Wood and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 6, 1957; they were married for 64 years and raised six children. Ronald worked very hard to support his wife and children and provide for them, and he taught all his children how to work hard. He worked as a printer and worked at Utah Bank Note, Rocky Mountain Printing, and later in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Printing Department. He served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission with Zelda, an inter-city mission where they loved and helped many people and developed a true love and friendship with them.

Ronald was always good at fixing cars and repairing things around the home. He helped his children with their cars as they got older, along with repairs in their own homes.

Ronald also loved the outdoors; he loved fishing and hunting and loved taking his sons out and teaching them how to fish and hunt. Later in life, he developed a wonderful, lasting friendship with close-by friends in the neighborhood. They were always trying to out fish each other and had some terrific memories together. He loved every opportunity he could to go back to Blanding, Utah, to hunt and four-wheel with his cousins Max and Clisbee Black and his brother Devon. He loved taking his family there for family reunions. He loved Blanding so much that he wanted to move back after retirement, but his good wife decided to let him take trips back to visit as often as he could.

We want to give special thanks to all the people who took such great care of Ronald. Jamie and Stacie with Elevation Hospice and good people at Beehive Homes in South Jordan, Utah.

He is survived by his dear wife Zelda; and his six children and their spouses, Keith Roy Black & Diane Knight, Scott Alan Black & Cindy, Sheldon Glen Black & Darene, Cindy & Michael Barrett, Myron Cary Black & Heidi, and Machele & Drew Kramer. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 31, 2021, 10:00 a.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah 84123, where a viewing will be held from 9-9:45 a.m. prior to services. Graveside Services at 1:00 pm - Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E 4580 S, Millcreek, Utah 84117.
