Rose Vartouhi Hindoian Peterson

Rose Vartouhi Hindoian Peterson died December 7, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born to Armenian parents Abraham and Mary Hindoian in Aleppo, Syria, on February 17, 1928. Both of her parents were survivors of the Armenian genocide. As a young girl, she helped her family establish their family business of making hand knotted carpets. As she grew up, she worked as a seamstress making beautiful clothing from pictures without patterns. She also gave sewing lessons to local Armenian girls. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1965. They settled in Salt Lake City to be close to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rose was active in her church and held many callings. She married Wallace A. Peterson in 1971. She worked for ZCMI in the downtown tailors shop for 30 years. She loved cooking and baking. Her neighborhood knew her as "The Cookie Lady". Rose and Walley loved their dogs. She is preceded in death by her husband Wallace A. Peterson; parents, Abraham & Mary Hindoian; and sister Manoushag Arslanian. Survived by sister Melva Emrazian; brothers Moses (Anahid) Hindoian, and Vahan (Christine) Hindoian. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 12, 2016, 11:00 a.m., at Taylorsville 26th Ward, 3495 West 4850 South. Viewings will be held Sunday, December 11th, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and again prior to services Monday at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
