Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Great-great-grandfather and Uncle passed away at home October 20, 2017 in West Valley City, Utah. Dad was born March 12, 1934 to Russell Dwight Alfred and Hilda Lydia Gottschall in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. He was the oldest of their 9 children. He grew up alongside Arvid, Helen, Richard, Ralph, John, Mike and David. Steven, his infant brother passed too early in life. Russ graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1952. Shortly after, he met Shirley Ann Popp and they were married March 15, 1955. They began their life together in Scottsbluff and soon welcomed 2 sons, Charles Edward and Bryan Lee. Looking for better job opportunities, they moved to Utah and welcomed 2 more children, Dale Allen and Deborah Lynn. They lived in Salt Lake, Woods Cross and Bountiful. Dad was a proud member of Local Teamsters 222. He began driving truck for Ravarino Produce Company in Salt Lake. He took his first long haul trucking job with Mayfair Markets and had a regular West Coast route. Russ completed his trucking career with IML Freight as an East Coast driver and retired from the Union in the 1980's. Dad worked as a mechanic after leaving IML. During his trucking career, Russ met and married Mary Loving Morgan and together they raised her children Vickie, Randy, Doug, Gene, Denise, and Dennis. They lived in West Valley City, Utah, Evanston Wyoming and Las Vegas Nevada; they were legally separated. Dad returned to Utah in his later years and kept busy by working as a handyman for Maxx properties in West Valley City. Dad also became a self-taught computer geek and online gamer. He was always using the latest technology available, helping others with their computers and converting old home videos to digital CD's. As his health declined and travel became too difficult, he used his computer skills to keep in touch with family online. Preceded in death by his parents Russell and Hilda; brothers, John and Steven; his son Dale; and wives Shirley and Mary. Survived by his brothers Arvid (Cleo), Richard (Pat), Ralph (Guylene), Mike, David (Jeannette); sister Helen (Gene), sons Chuck (Debbie) and Bryan (Shirley); daughter Debbie Lynn; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
