Russell Kent Schlappi

April 9, 1962 — June 23, 2014

Russell Kent Schlappi passed away peacefully, at his home, June 23, 2014 after a courageous and valiant battle against multiple side effects of Nasopharyngeal Cancer. Russ was born April 9, 1962 to Kent and Edith Petersen Schlappi. He graduated from Granger High School then served an honorable mission in Boston, Massachusetts. He married the love of his life, Dona Grant, September 6, 1986 in the Manti Temple. He attended Weber State and obtained a Master's Degree. He used this degree to begin his employment at Fidelity Investments and worked there for 28 years. Russ appreciated all of the trips, awards and incredible people he got to work with every day at Fidelity. He worked hard and was a faithful servant in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings including two bishoprics and the Stake High Council. Russ enjoyed being outdoors where he could go hunting, camping and four wheeling. He was also a BYU football fan. He lived his life by example with courage, strength and faith. He loved his family more than anything and fought to stay with them for as long as he could. He is survived by his wife, Dona; children: Kortney, Bannon and Trista (Scott) Matheson; siblings: Kennie (Rick Banning), Jerry (KoNae); father, Kent (Shannon) Schlappi. Preceded in death by his mother; brother, David. The family would like to express appreciation to all the medical professionals who have given Russ such loving care over the years. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 30, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville Central Stake Center, 4950 S. 1950 W. Viewings will be held Sunday, June 29, 2014, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Monday at the church, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
