Ruth Rousseau Leavitt

September 8, 1939 — January 26, 2018

Our beloved mother Ruth Rousseau Leavitt, passed away at home on Friday, January 26th surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren following a courageous 24 year battle with cancer. She fought with grace and dignity on three separate occasions, though her will was strong, the cancer finally overcame her body. Mom was born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas on September 8, 1939. She graduated from Highland High School in Dallas Texas and attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She worked at Kennedy Jr. High then transferred to Wasatch Jr. High where she retired after working 29 years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and over the years developed a great love for the scriptures. She was an incredible interior decorator and an avid bird watcher. One of her greatest joys was being a cheerleader for her 22 grandchildren at their numerous sporting and dance events. She is survived by her children Tami (Steve) Ward, Todd (Julie) Muir, Shelli (Chad) Simmons, Sherri (Matt) Gardner, Troy (Angela) Muir, Debi Muir, Dana (Ryan) Graham; 22 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.Surviving siblings, Wayne Rousseau and Peggy Collotizi. She was preceded in death by her husband W. Kay Leavitt; parents Elry and Flossie (Burrow) Rousseau; siblings Sammy Rousseau, Ruby (Rousseau) Puckette, Lonnie Rousseau, Joseph Rousseau; and grandchild Justin Simmons. In honoring Mom's last wishes she requested we not have a viewing or funeral. We would like to invite all to join us at the graveside service held at Lake Hills Cemetery 10055 S. State Street, Sandy 84070 on Tuesday, January 30th at 2:00 pm. Following the graveside service there will be a luncheon for all held at South Mountain 5 Ward 1911 E. Gray Fox Drive, Draper UT 84020. In lieu of flowers, as expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the Hunstman Cancer Institute, 2000 Circle of Hope, Salt Lake City UT 84112. Arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
