Samuel Darrell Handy passed away peacefully in his sleep in Logan, Utah, May 7, 2018. Darrell was born in Franklin, Idaho February 28, 1929 and grew up in the small town of Franklin, Idaho. Darrell attended high school in Preston, Idaho where he met his sweetheart Geraldine Crockett somewhere on the basketball court and they fell in love. Darrell attended college and went on a full time mission for the LDS church. Darrell and Geraldine (Gerry) were married in the Logan temple 5 days after he got home from his mission. Darrell then went into the Army where he reached the rank of Lieutenant. After his service in the military, he finished college and went on to teach at Granger High School (Football/ Basketball) as a coach. A year or two later he found out he didn't like kids, so he moved back into the family business operating an American Oil Service Station on 20th East in Salt Lake City. He moved locations and companies from 23rd East and to his final location right next to the 23rd East Freeway Exit where he worked over 15 years. When a fire caused that business to close Darrell went to work at Hayes Brothers Buick as a service writer until his retirement early in 1980. Darrell loved to hunt and fish. He loved to chase the little white ball on the golf course. When he wasn't working, Darrell spent his time off each Saturday with his friends either fishing or golfing, or going somewhere depending on the weather and time of year. Darrell was heavy into Family History and even worked downtown Salt Lake City at the family history center. When he met someone he would ask, "Do you know how easy it is to get on family search?" Sam, as his friends all called him, was liked by everyone he met making friends wherever he went. Darrell had many callings for the LDS Church during his life; Missionary, Bishopric counselor, High Council, and Missionary at the Family History Center. There were many others, too many to mention. Darrell is survived by his 3 sons, Scott Handy (Kathy Handy -deceased), Stephen Crockett Handy, (Wanda Handy), Shane Crockett Handy (Kathy Handy); and his brother Glade Handy, Logan UT, (Yvonne Handy). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Geraldine Crockett Handy who passed a short time ago. Viewings will be held Friday, May 11th, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S.
