Our cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife and sister passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday afternoon, April 30, 2024 at the age of 88. She was born on January 8, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lucy Edna Gibson and Clarence James Dean.
Mom first married Kenneth Allen Augason on July 28,1955, in the Logan temple. Kenneth passed away on January 24,1957, leaving her and a daughter, Sherie behind. She later married Robert Wayne Lefavor in the Salt Lake Temple on November 17, 1957. Robert brought two children to the marriage, David and Barbara. Mom and Dad had three more children, Kathie, Bob and John. Mom loved her family very much. She made us all feel as though we were one family. She was blessed to have 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lefavor on October 24, 2022. She is survived by her children David (Terese) Lefavor, Barbara (Luke, previously deceased) Haun, Sherie (Stephen) Hislop, Kathie (Joe) Dawson, Robert (Tami) Lefavor, and John (Lucy) Lefavor.
Mom grew up in the Sugarhouse area and graduated from East High School. She later attended Brigham Young Academy. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, friend and colleague. She loved, supported and took great care of Dad throughout their lives together. She was an angel mother and an example to all of us. She always made sure everyone was fed and taken care of and that we had everything we needed. I am positive that she made many sacrifices for that to happen. She loved and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She constantly spoke about her grandchildren to the nurses and caretakers. She would also spend a lot of time looking at her electronic photo frame of photos of all her family. Mom could identify each person in the photographs up until the very end of her life.
She enjoyed getting together with friends and family throughout the years. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many different callings, including Bishop's wife. She and Dad served a mission for the church in Utica, New York from March 1998 to September 1999. She worked as a secretary at Valley Junior High for the Granite School District for many years.
She and her sisters had a great relationship and would have many good times on sister trips with each other traveling to fun and faraway places.
Mom had many talents and abilities which she shared with those around her. She enjoyed singing and sang in different groups and choirs throughout her life. She also played the piano and enjoyed painting and reading.
We as a family were greatly blessed to call her mother, grandmother, and sister. We miss her greatly but are grateful that she was able to be with us these many years. We knew that we were loved by her. It will be hard to live up to all that she was.
We as a family would like to express our gratitude to all those who cared for Mom during her last years at Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Millcreek and Carrington Court Assisted Living in South Jordan where mom spent her remaining days of life.
