SHIRLEY ELAINE ALLEN PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT HOME ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2023, AFTER A LONG BATTLE WITH PULMONARY FIBROSIS, INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE AND KIDNEY CANCER. SHIRLEY WAS BORN ON MAY 29, 1960, IN SALT LAKE CITY, UT TO HER PARENTS THOMAS JOSEPH ALLEN AND ANNA JEAN NAGY ALLEN.
SHIRLEY WAS BORN THE LAST OF 6 CHILDREN. SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARTNER, LOUIE FORBACH, HER TWO SISTERS LINDA BAUMAN SORENSEN AND TINA ALLEN ASHER MEDINA, AND BROTHER DAVID KEITH BAUMAN. SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER TWO SISTERS, COLEAN ALLEN LARSEN AND CHARLOTTE JOYCE MCCAFFERTY.
SHE GREW UP AND WAS RAISED IN SALT LAKE CITY AND SETTLED IN SOUTH SALT LAKE FOR THE PAST 15 YEARS. SHE ATTENDED WEST HIGH SCHOOL AND EARNED HER DIPLOMA FROM GRANITE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
SHIRLEY LIVED WITH HER MOTHER JEAN AND WAS HER CAREGIVER WHEN HER MOTHER NO LONGER COULD WORK BECAUSE OF BREAST CANCER. SHE HAD DIFFERENT JOBS AFTER THAT, BUT IT WAS THROUGH HER JOB AT DESERET INDUSTRIES SHE MET LUDWIG (LOUIE) FORBACH. HE TOOK CARE OF SHIRLEY UNTIL HIS PASSING IN 1996.
SHE WAS AGAIN ON HER OWN AND WORKED DIFFERENT JOBS. HER LAST JOB, AT WENDY'S, WAS THE ONE THAT GAVE HER A LOT OF JOY. SHE WORKED THERE UNTIL COVID AND THEN WASN'T ABLE TO RETURN BECAUSE OF HER HEALTH.
A RECENT HIGHLIGHT FOR SHIRLEY WAS THAT SHE WAS ABLE TO FLY BACK TO NEW YORK TO VISIT COUSINS SHE HAD NOT SEEN IN MANY YEARS WITH HER SISTER CHARLOTTE. SHE WAS EXCITED TO TELL EVERYONE ABOUT GOING TO NIAGRA FALLS AND THAT SHE COULD WALK ALL THE STEPS BY HERSELF!
SHIRLEY WAS A PROUD MEMBER OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS AND SHE WAS EQUALLY PROUD OF HER NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE BEING A NAVAJO INDIAN. SHIRLEY GREW UP AS A YOUNG GIRL GOING TO THE LAMANITE (INDIAN) WARD WHICH WAS THE ORIGINAL 5TH WARD OF THE CHURCH IN THE SALT LAKE VALLEY WHERE SHE HAD MANY FRIENDS. SHE ALSO HAD MANY MISSIONAIRIES ASSIGNED TO HER THROUGH DIFFERENT WARDS, THE LAST BEING THE FISHERS-THANK YOU FOR HELPING HER THESE PAST FEW YEARS. THESE COUPLES WERE ALWAYS THERE TO LEND A HAND, TAKE HER TO MEETINGS AND ACTIVITIES AND JUST BE THERE TO TALK TO.
ON HER BIRTHDAY, MAY 29, 2018, SHIRLEY WAS ABLE TO GO THROUGH THE TEMPLE. AGAIN, THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT SHE WAS VERY PROUD OF.
AS MANY OF YOU KNOW, SHIRLEY HAD PROBLEMS IN HER LIFE WITH ADDICTION AND TRIED TO DEAL WITH THEM THE BEST THAT SHE COULD.
OUR FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO THANK DR. SEAN CALLAHAN FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH SUGARHOUSE LOCATION AND HIS STAFF FOR THE MANY HOURS THAT WERE SPENT IN HER BEHALF.
SHIRLEY WAS VERY KIND AND GENEROUS. JUST ABOUT EVERYONE SHE MET WOULD CALL HER A FRIEND.
SHE WILL BE MISSED BY HER SISTERS AND MANY NEICES AND NEPHEWS.
