Shirley Sutton Petersen

January 1, 1927 — January 7, 2014

Shirley Sutton Petersen 1927 ~ 2014 In the early morning hours of January 7, 2014, Shirley took one last brave step, left this world, and joined her husband, parents, sister, sons and granddaughter. She was the first child born to Vance S. and Carma S. Sutton on New Year's Day, January 1, 1927. She grew up in Salt Lake City but spent many memorable hours with her dad on her Grandpa Sutton's farm in Magna. The memory of those wonderful days stayed with her throughout her life and brought her and her family great joy and laughter. She attended South High School, graduated from Granite High School and married the boy next door, George R. Steglich. From that union came two daughters and a son. After they divorced, she met and married Floyd A. Allred and they had a son. Floyd died in 1961. She then found the love of her life, Reed E. Petersen, and they were married July 11, 1969. She became his beloved "Red". They truly loved each other and spent 42 years enjoying all life had to offer until his death August 21, 2011. Shirley is survived by daughter, Sharon Crandall (Martin, deceased), Susan Nelson (Jay); step-daughter, Cindy Dickson (James); several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson. In addition to Reed, she is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Donna Kuhre (Bill); sons, Robert "Butch" Steglich and Douglas D. Allred. The family extends a sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Garden Terrace and Brighton Home Health and Hospice. Their tender care of Shirley brought her family peace and comfort. Thanks for all you did for her!
