Shirley Travis

Shirley Patricia Travis, beloved wife, mother, and dedicated nurse, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2024, in Malad City, ID. She was born on March 10, 1939, to Beulah Lindsley and Frederick "Fred" LT Frederick, in the town of Johnstown, NY. She spent her childhood in Gloversville, NY.

As passionate advocate for healthcare, Shirley pursued her dreams and graduated from Albany Medical Center School of Nursing on June 7, 1959, as a Registered Nurse. She served as a nurse at Nathan Littauer Hospital for over 33 years. Her dedication to the nursing profession touched countless lives, and her kindness and expertise left an indelible mark on those she cared for. She especially enjoyed her time as a maternity nurse, bringing new babies into the world.

Shirley's journey through life was marked by moments of love, commitment, and service. On July 30, 1960, she joined hands in marriage with her devoted husband, Ronald H Travis, embarking on a beautiful eternal partnership. Their union was a testament to enduring love and unwavering support. Later sealed in the Washington DC Temple May 28, 1976, after joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in October 1969.

Shirley was not only a skilled nurse but also a loving mother to her four children Debbie Yokem (Curtis), Andrea Miller (Michael), Michael Travis (Krisel), and Sarah Sepos (Jason). She devoted her life to serving her family, and imparting invaluable lessons of responsibility, integrity, and respect. She was a devoted grandmother and even chose to move across the country to Utah to be closer to her thirteen grandchildren and later her 5.8 great-grandchildren.

Beyond her professional and family roles, Shirley was committed to serving in her church and her community. She was an activist for those less fortunate. She guided the formation of the Taylorsville Food Pantry and devoted countless hours to the Utah Food Bank. Shirley was most enthusiastic about her family history research and her service as an ordinance worker at the Brigham City Temple.

In her leisure time, she found joy in - bargain shopping, reading numerous books, endless hours of word games, and spending time creatively crocheting, quilting, scrapbooking, and capturing photographic memories.

Shirley leaves behind a legacy of life lessons for her family through her example as a working mother, eternal companion, and lifelong disciple of Christ

She epitomized the phrase never missing an opportunity to stop and smell the roses - literally.

Funeral Services will be held at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwoood Road, Taylorsville, Utah on April 18, 2024. Viewing Hour will be 11am (MDT), with funeral to follow at 12pm (MDT). Family and friends invited to gather to honor her memory and share stories of her life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Utah Food Bank in Shirley's honor.
