Steven Reece Shafer

Steven R. Shafer passed away October 18, 2015, surrounded by loved ones.He was born on September 17, 1947, in Falls City, Nebraska, to Alvin and Twila Shafer. He grew up in Washington and Utah and graduated from Tooele High School.Upon graduating, he joined the U.S. Army. He was a Vietnam vet with the 23rd Infantry and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired with 28 years of service. He married Mary Kushlan and was blessed with 3 sons. They later divorced. He married Nan Larson on December 4, 1979. Her 2 kids and 1 adopted son joined the family. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and family reunions. Steve leaves behind his wife; 5 children: Troy (Kim), Devin (Natalie), Dustin (Terra), Victor (Jen), and Scott; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 6 siblings. He is preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Starla Spencer. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 23, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Southside Church of Christ, 3138 West 7000 South, where a viewing will be held prior to services, 9:30-11:00 a.m. Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
