Susan was born December 19, 1951, at Warner-Robbins AFB, in Georgia, to Willard and Dora Thompson. She died January 14, 2017, peacefully at home. The second of five children, she grew up as the family traveled from military base to base, even to England and Germany. It was always hard for her to leave her friends, but she adapted to her new surroundings, making friends easily and breaking the hearts of boys on both sides of the Atlantic. She had a great love for family; the one she was born into, the one she created, and the one she picked up along the way. Suzie was a very good cook and loved doing it. She worked at the YWCA for 23 years, starting as a janitor and quickly moving into a maintenance position. She learned how take care of a large facility doing repairs and maintenance on the oldest in-door pool in the valley. She also worked on an ancient boiler, did roofing and repaired countless other necessary items that would frequently need repair on her day off. She loved fixing things from cars to houses for herself, friends and family. She was always there for those she loved. Her favorite ways to relax were gardening, yard sales, thrift stores (she always found the best stuff), and restoring the treasures she brought home. She is survived by her husband, Mike Wickham; son, Derek (Bonnie) McConnell; daughter, Michelle (Chris) Shill; granddaughters, Brittney, Tyler, and Teagan; great-granddaughter, Brandy; sisters, Vickie Herron, Judy (David) Thompson, and Patsy Miller; brother, Dale Thompson; niece, Kasey (Ken) Byrd; and nephew, Robert Ness. There will be a Celebration of Life event from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the YWCA, 322 East 300 South, in Salt Lake City. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Salt Lake City YWCA in the name of Susan Ramsey Wickham.
