Our daughter, sister, friend, aunt, teacher, “Hunny Bunny”, “Sweatie”, Mama and Grandma Tonz returned to her loving Heavenly Father on December 18, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Toni was born June 18, 1959 to Don and Joyce Chinn in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was an avid lifelong learner graduating from Granger High School, College of Eastern Utah, Utah State University, and Western Governor’s University. Toni always had a strong testimony of her Savior, that blossomed as she served in the Billings, Montana mission. It was there she also found her feisty side when she kicked her companion in the shin and nearly drove home to attend her sister’s wedding.
Upon returning from her mission and finishing school, Toni found and married her sweetheart, Grant, in the Salt Lake Temple on March 29, 1985. Together they had four wonderful children whom she loved with all her heart. Mrs. Martin touched 1000's of lives while teaching elementary school for 30+ years. She had a passion and talent for teaching and helping others, and as a result she earned the 2013 Excel Outstanding Teacher Award.
Toni had an amazing gift of listening and making everyone feel like the most important person in the world. Because of this gift, mom always had many friends. Among her closest friends were the members of her book club. It was from some of these dear friends that, later in life, Toni learned to quilt. With a new found meaning of “loving you to stitches”, mom has literally wrapped her love around more people than we can count. If ever there was a party, chances are Tonz was behind it. One of her greatest passions in life was throwing parties to bring and keep people close.
Perhaps the title Tonz enjoyed most was Grandma. She loved nothing more than spoiling her grandbabies. She could always be counted on for endless sleepovers, water fights, and storytelling. Now she can be counted on as their guardian angel. For years Toni has taught us how to thoughtfully give. Our forever gift to her will be to carry on her legacy for generations. Although we don’t know how we will go on, we will do our best to “buck up” and continue on with faith because “we’ve got this”.
Lastly, we would like to express our deepest thanks to the many who have helped in Toni’s fight, especially the staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
Toni is survived by her parents; husband Grant; children Ashlee (Isaac), Dallin (Breeann), Cameron (Erica), and Bryan (Savanah); siblings Debbie (Bob), Christy, Jeannie (Doug), Mike (Jamie), and Matt (Kelly); and grandkids Hadlee, Kennadee, Brynlee, Finnlee, Wrigley, and Easton.
Visitation services will be held at the LDS meetinghouse at 3020 W. 4700 S. on Monday, December 23, 2019 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. The funeral will follow starting at 12:00 p.m.
