Vernon Ray Austin passed away peacefully at the home of his son with his wife by his side. Vernon was born May 24, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Vernon and Vida Lund Austin. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Eileen Austin; children, Tina Austin and Ricky (Elizabeth) Austin; grandchildren, Alyxce, Zachary, and Riquelle; step-grandchildren, Katie (Toby), Christina, and Amy; step-great-grandchildren, Gage, Katarina, Shawn, Brooke, Landon, and Salina; sister, Laree (John) Daugherty; brother, Rodney (Sandra) Austin; and long-time family friend, Gina Close. Vernon spent his life taking care of his family and working with his hands. He graduated from Salt Lake Technical College in 1967. He was a welder and mechanic and all around helping hand. He used most of his spare time helping out others or tinkering around his yard. He had a big heart and could find a way to make almost anything work one more time. He loved the outdoors. He was a hunter, fisherman, and the best B.S.er around. He was well liked and loved by many. He will be missed deeply and loved always. A memorial service will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at McDougal Funeral Home. Place of Birth:Salt Lake City, UtahPlace of Death:Salt Lake City, Utah
