Virginia Eyvonne Sweet Halverson passed away quietly on January 21, 2016 in Bountiful, Utah. She was born July 16, 1931 in Wilder, Idaho to George and Elsie (Search) Sweet Sr. and was the third of eight children. Her husband of 56 years, Edgar L. Halverson, preceded her in death on December 12, 2009. Virginia met Ed at an Oddfellows dance when he was a handsome young staff sergeant in the Air National Guard (also known as the Air Force Reserve), and they were married shortly after on April 5, 1953 in Nampa, Idaho. They moved to Whittier, California in 1958 and spent the majority of their married life in Whittier, La Habra, and Brea. Virginia's career included raising their three children and assisting in managing the family business. She was a devoted Angels baseball fan, enjoyed keeping a beautiful yard and home, and had the gift of hospitality as the door was always open for family and friends from out of town. Active in the Presbyterian Church for the majority of her adult life, she taught Sunday school for many years and served faithfully in many positions. She was proud to serve as an elder and in the children's ministries at La Habra Hills Presbyterian Church. Virginia is survived by her children Martin L. Halverson (Pam), Virginia Halverson Pflueger, David L. Halverson (Kristen); 8 grandchildren; and one great grandson; sisters Pearl Sweet Behunin (LaRell), Cheryl Sweet Ward (Ronald), Betty Sweet Largent (Don); sister-in-law Lida Rae Sweet; brother-in-law Louis Sennick; many nieces and nephews; and other family and friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her siblings George R. Sweet Jr. (Corrina), Jack M. Sweet (Wanita), Monte C. Sweet, Donna Sweet Sennick; son-in-law Kim C. Pflueger; and her parents. Burial will be at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. A memorial service will be held on February 20, 2016 at 1:00 pm at San Gabriel Community Church, 117 N Pine Street, San Gabriel, California with a reception to follow.
