Virginia Lee Mackey Walter was born to Charles and Nora Mackey May 30, 1922 in Ohio. She passed away peacefully on July 18, 2017 in Taylorsville, UT. Virginia grew up during the great depression with her two older brothers Bob and Ed. Her family moved to Maryland where she attended Sparrows Point High School. At the end of World War II, Virginia married her sailor and sweetheart Jack Gandy. They had three children: Patricia, who passed away at two weeks; Jack Jr.; and Bob. Even though Jack and Virginia later divorced, she always carried a special love for him. She later married Claude "Hinckle" Walter. Virginia worked various secretarial jobs, including a career as a medical secretary for nuclear medicine at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Virginia loved her family, especially her two sons. She was fiercely independent and was never afraid to speak her mind. She will always be remembered for her bold spirit. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers; husbands; and her children Patricia and Bob. Survived by her son Jack Gandy; daughter-in-law Julie Gandy; grandchildren, Kim (Larry) Gandy Frum, Sarah (Matt) Petersen, Liz (Wes) Oates, Roberto (Deanna) Echanique, Philip Gandy; and 4 great-grandchildren. Her family expresses appreciation to the staff at Legacy House of Taylorsville and Brighton Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they provided. Services will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, where a viewing will be held prior to services from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
