Virginia Maxwell Fitzgerald

May 28, 1920 — June 28, 2018

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Virginia Louise Maxwell Fitzgerald, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 28, 2018, exactly one month after celebrating her 98th birthday. Virginia's last day on earth was spent with friends, enjoying the great outdoors, fishing, having a BBQ and 4-wheeling after which she enjoyed an evening visit from her grandson, granddaughter and 3 great-grandsons. Virginia peacefully transitioned from this life at her Rexburg, Madison County, Idaho home, the next early morning with her dear friends Savannah and Ian Fillerup by her side. Virginia was born May 28, 1920 in Peoa, Summit County, Utah. The eldest of five girls born to James Pheren and Rada Louise Sargent Maxwell. Virginia received her LDS Seminary Certificate of Graduation in May of 1937 and graduated from South Summit High School in May of 1938. While in school Virginia was an honor roll student, cheerleader, public speaker, the drum major for the S.S.H.S marching band, member of the girl's glee club and had the lead role in the school play her senior year. After High School, Virginia applied to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she was accepted and awarded a scholarship. She attended BYU until graduation in 1942 where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with a Major in English and a Minor in Physical Education. Virginia taught school for 41 years. Before her retirement, she had earned two Master's Equivalent Degrees in Elementary Education having completed everything except a thesis. In addition to receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from BYU, she earned many credits from the University of Utah, Utah State University, Westminster College and the University of California at Berkley. Virginia had a great love for her students and enjoyed continually reading of their accomplishments and for the continued contact they kept with her through the years. On May 13, 1946, Virginia was sealed for time and all eternity to the love of her life Dale K Fitzgerald, in the Salt Lake Temple. They resided in Kamas and Roosevelt, Utah where Virginia taught school until moving to the Salt Lake City area where they resided for 54 years. Virginia and Dale were active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as the ward chorister, young women's leader and camp director, primary teacher and in many other capacities in the Canyon Rim 3rd Ward of the Canyon Rim Stake. Virginia and Dale enjoyed spending their weekends and summers together at their family cabin. As their second home, many memories were made here with their children and grandchildren. They also delighted in traveling the world with family and friends. Virginia has made lasting relationships with many sweet people all over this world and kept in close contact with them for her remaining years. Virginia was judicious in offering the pleasantries of her disposition and personality in relieving the burdens that others bore. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Shaye F. (Mike) Vernon of St. Anthony, ID, Seri F. (Kim) Allen of West Jordan, UT; her sisters, Gloria M. McAllister of Pleasant Grove, UT, Afton M. (Val) Jackson of Kanab, UT; grandchildren, Nathan D.
