Wendell LeRoy Sorensen

February 1, 1933 — October 1, 2012

Roy Sorensen Wendell LeRoy Sorensen quietly returned to our Heavenly Father on October 1, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 1, 1933 to Wendell Nels Sorensen, Jr. and Mary Booth Sorensen. Roy married his high school sweetheart Laura Donna Ruth Malm on July 8 1953 in the Logan Temple. They were blessed with 7 children: Jerry (Marjean), Tom (Chris), Stan (Pat), Robert (deceased), John Richard (deceased), Janet (Dirk Burton), Jim (Lora). Donna passed away January 19, 1975. Roy found love again and married Sarah Jane Stott on February 12, 1976 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They were blessed with 4 children: Erica (Jeff Stanworth), Mary (Ryan Beattie), Dan, Larae (Steve Shelton). Roy served honorably in the U.S. Army Infantry, worked for the railroad (loved his model trains), and was cameraman for Channel 4 in the early 60 s as color TV came into being. He became a journeyman welder and master craftsman in the sheet metal fabrication industry and specialized in stainless steel. His projects are scattered across the country and a few foreign locations including many LDS Temple baptismal fonts which were his favorite assignments. Roy was completely devoted to his family which includes 30 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. There were always many fun adventures including fishing, camping, boating and water skiing. Roy and Sarah enjoyed several years square dancing together. Somehow he found time to support an endless schedule of school, sports, and other activities involving his children and grandchildren. He also helped countless family members, friends, and neighbors. If anybody needed to borrow a tool or have something fixed they would go to Roy. Service was one of Roy s trademarks and he gave countless hours to many leadership and miscellaneous callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Roy served in bishoprics and as Bishop, Stake Presidency, High Council, missionary assignments, and many other positions. He filled a two year service mission at the Humanitarian Center and five years as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple, Among many who greeted Roy in the next life are his first wife Donna, two infant sons Robert and John, his parents Wendell and Mary, and granddaughter Chelsea. He is survived by his sisters Lila (Martin Hendriksen) and Wilma (Calvin Wilde). He firmly believed in the mission of the Humanitarian Center and the Perpetual Education Fund. The family requests that in lieu of flowers to please consider a donation to these two worthy causes. A viewing will be held Monday, October 8, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S Redwood Rd. Murray, UT.
