Whitney Ann Stoddard

May 5, 1981 — March 1, 2015

Whitney passed away peacefully at home in Bountiful, Utah, on Sunday. She was the first child and daughter born to Larry and Debbie Stoddard. Born in Salt Lake City, she subsequently moved to San Antonio, TX; Ocean Springs, MS; Poulsbo, WA; and Henderson, NV, before returning to live in Utah. Whitney graduated from Layton High School and completed some college at Weber State University. She was married in 1999 in the Bountiful Utah Temple and divorced three years later. She lived at home with her parents until her death. Whitney had a special gift for working with children and most enjoyed her jobs as a certified nursing assistant in the newborn intensive care unit and as a babysitter before her health issues interrupted her ability to work. Whitney was one of the most outward-facing and affectionate individuals we had the privilege of knowing. There is no doubt in any of our minds that she loved us. She was always interested in spending time with her loved ones. She loved traditions and celebrating holidays and enjoyed documenting gatherings with her camera. She combined her love of shopping and love of people, often giving thoughtful gifts even without special occasions. Family was the most important thing to Whitney. Another feature that defined Whitney's life and personality was her love for children. She especially loved being an aunt to Shep and Maya. Whitney, you left us too soon. You were a special daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and aunt. You would have been a wonderful mother. You struggled with great opposition and difficulty in this life, and we dearly wish we could have helped you more. You had many beautiful hopes and dreams about your future. We will miss you and always remember the light and joy you brought into our lives with your selfless love. Whitney, we love you. Whitney leaves behind her parents, Larry and Debbie Stoddard; brothers Jonathan and Andrew; and sister, Amanda (Tim) Rowan. A viewing will be held for Whitney on Thursday, March 5, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home (4340 S Redwood Rd. Taylorsville, Utah, 84123). The following day, Friday, there will be a viewing at 10:00 a.m. and funeral at 11:00 a.m. at the North Canyon LDS Stake Center (965 Oakwood Dr. Bountiful, Utah, 84010).
