Whitney Dayley Hale

Whitney Dayley Hale, age 97, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016, peacefully at the home of his daughter, Aleen Hale Holt. He was born August 12, 1918, in Oakley, Idaho, to Wallace Aroet and Anna Penola Dayley Hale. He married Melda Catherine Morgan, on January 18, 1944, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from Oakley High School and Albion (Idaho) State Normal School. He served a full-time mission in the Central States LDS Mission from 1941-1943. Following his mission, he joined the U.S. Navy and served during WW II in the Pacific Theatre from 1943-1945. Whitney and Melda made their first home Oakley, Idaho, where he farmed both his and his father's land. In 1956, he and Melda moved to Murray, Utah, into a home which he helped build, and there he remained throughout his life and raised his family. He remained in his home until recently when he moved into the home of his daughter, Aleen. Whitney's career in Utah was foreman for Goodrich Construction, followed by 17 years as the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for Murray School District. Whitney enjoyed his service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and filled many callings throughout his life. One of his great joys was serving a senior mission with Melda in the New York Rochester LDS Mission where they were assigned to the Joseph Smith Sr. home near Palmyra from 1987-1988. Later, Whitney served in both the Salt Lake and Jordan River LDS Temples. Survived by his six children, Robert (Susan) Hale, Bruce (Christine) Hale, Randall (Sharon) Hale, Lance (Jill) Hale, Aleen (John) Holt, and Daren Hale.; sisters, Anna Lou Bair, and Claire Spence; and brother, Fielding (Norma) Hale. Preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; two brothers; and a stillborn son. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at the LDS Church located at 5750 South Nena Way (30 West), in Murray, Utah. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at McDougal Funeral home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.
