Wilford Kent Thatcher

October 18, 1954 — October 27, 2011

W. Kent Thatcher 1954-2011 Wilford Kent Thatcher, 57, our beloved husband, father, grandpa, son and brother, left this earthly existence much too soon October 27, 2011 after a difficult 8 month struggle with pancreatic cancer. Kent was born in Seattle, Washington October 18, 1954 to George Alma and Elda Marie Pope Thatcher. He was the sixth of twelve children. The family moved many times during his growing up years which enabled him to make many friends and be comfortable wherever he went. Kent served an LDS mission to the Netherlands, then returned home to meet and marry his sweetheart, Rebecca Nokes in the Salt Lake Temple August 5, 1976. They are the parents of five amazing children of whom he was very proud. Kent was called to be a bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at age 26 and then served willingly and faithfully in many capacities throughout his life. He especially loved serving the youth. His last church calling was as a Youth Sunday School teacher. He dearly loved his class members. Kent had many occupations throughout his life. For the past ten years he worked in pre-need sales at McDougal Funeral Home. He loved his job and the people he worked with. He truly loved life and found his greatest joys with his wife and children. We love him so much. His intelligence, resourcefulness, kindness, sense of humor, faith, and humility will be sorely missed. He is preceded in death by his father and sister Irene. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca and children Stephanie (Keven) Proud, Nathan (Kim), Michael (Brenda), Andrew, and Christopher Thatcher, 2 grandsons, his mother, 7 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Bennion East Stake Center, 5980 South 1300 West. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services on Wednesday at the Church.
