Willard Jim Carroll 1933 ~ 2014 Willard Jim Carroll, age 81, passed away peacefully in his home in Taylorsville, Utah, on October 21, 2014. He was born on January 6, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of Willard B. and Marguerite Carroll. At a very young age he learned to work very hard on his parents farm raising animals, working the dairy, and raising sugar beets. He also delivered a very large paper route for the Tribune for which he won an award and was honored with a trip to San Francisco, California. He attended Cyprus High School and completed a welding course at Utah Technical College. In 1953 he was drafted into the army and sent to basic training in Ford Ord, California, and then he was sent on to Scout Dog Training in Fort Carson, Colorado. He was assigned to the Infantry Scout Dog Platoon and worked with the Infantry Operations S2 in Yangu, Korea, patrolling the 38th Parallel. His dog, Ryder, was his constant companion. Upon returning from the war, he bought a camper and boat and enjoyed waterskiing and fishing with his friends Phil, Ken and Danny. He also enjoyed dancing and took classes from the Arthur Murray School of Dance. He and his friend Phil enjoyed going to dances and this is where he met, Faye. Willard and Faye's first date was at the New Year's Eve dance at the Terrace Ballroom in 1963. They were later married on September 3, 1965, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they later built a home and raised three children. He worked for 30 years as a welder for Todd Welding and Machine and Galigher Company,building mining equipment. He later started his own business welding, building and designing athletic equipment, and running a landscaping business in the summer. He is survived by his wife, Faye Josephine Carroll, and his children, Julie (Bruce) Guyant, Scott (Lisa) Carroll, and David (Erin) Carroll. He has 14 grandchildren, Andrew (Rachael), Aubrey, Alex (Kelsey), Austin, Aric, Allison, Mitch (Mika), Vince, Stacia, Danielle, Breahna, Tanner, Tyler, Ryan and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willard B. and Marguerite Carroll and his sisters, Donna Jean Thiede and Norma Dickinson. We wish to express our gratitude for four years of kind and gentle care by his nurse, Becky and CNA/friend, Hector. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 27, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road. A viewing will be Sunday, 5-7:00 p.m. and Monday 9-9:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the Funeral Home. Interment: Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
