He was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for which he served a mission in the Netherlands. After returning from his mission, he met the love of his life, his eternal companion, Anna "Anneke" Cornelia Dorenbosch. On their second date, he proposed to her, and they were married a year later on July 8, 1966, in the Logan Temple. He held many positions and callings within the Church, such as Ward Clerk, bishopric counselor, high counselor, and many more.
Big Bill grew up in Midvale, Utah where he spent much of his childhood. He loved school and loved to play the trumpet. He graduated from Jordan High School in '59, where he was a star football player and loved to wrestle. During his time at Jordan, he worked thinning beets on the beet farms in South Jordan.
William graduated from the University of Utah School of Pharmacy in 1968 and started his career in pharmacology. He eventually owned his own pharmacy called Hyland Pharmacy from 1979 to 1994, where he helped many people and gained many close friends and associates; he treated everyone he met like they were family. After selling his pharmacy, he worked for Albertsons until retirement.
Big Bill spent a lot of his life in Teasdale, Utah working with his grandparents on the ranch. He helped by herding cows, moving pipes, and spending a lot of time with his beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins. Teasdale always held a special place in his heart, to which he passed the same love onto his family. One experience down in Teasdale that Bill remembers fondly, is when his uncle Creighton was babysitting him, and they were the only two in the old family home. Creighton turned off all the power and scared the daylights out of Big Bill, he continued to share that story many times over the years.
We will miss Big Bill and his fist bumps and his eye socket checks. Any friends that visited were always expected to eat before they left. Bill took a genuine interest in everybody he met and always remembered their names.
