William Don Nuttall, age 87, passed into the realm of eternity on April 29, 2019 in Hurricane, Utah. He was greeted in Heaven by his loving parents, grandparents, many friends, relatives and his two children, Donna Jean and Richard Dean.
He was born at home on September 14, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Dennis Don Nuttall and Mary Esther Wixom Nuttall. His delivery was aided by Esther Thorsen Wixom Johnson, a registered nurse who was also his grandmother. He and his family moved to Brigham City, Utah in 1939, where he lived until he entered the US Air Force in 1950. He graduated from Box Elder High School 1949.
He spent four years in the Air Force where he served as a radio communications technical instructor at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois prior to maintaining all types of communications equipment at Brooks Field in Texas for a year. He was transferred to Washington DC where he was trained on special classified electronics which he maintained for a year at O Misawa Air Force Base in northern Japan. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant before his discharge in 1954.
He attended the University of Utah from 1954 to 1958, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering in three and a half years. He worked for Boeing for two years in Seattle, Washington in support of the Bomark missile defense system. He worked 31 years for Hercules Incorporated close to Magna, Utah, where he developed special instrumentation and facilities in support of the Minuteman missile program and the Unites States submarine rocket motor program.
He finished his working career by teaching mathematics at West Lake Junior High School in West Valley City, Utah for six years where he served as department chairman for three years.
He married Nelma Jean Powell from Price, Utah in 1952 in the LDS Logan Temple. They had six children. They were divorced in 1971. He married Patricia Eggleston Chickering in Las Vegas, Nevada in1973. They had two children. They were divorced in 1979. He married Cuba Case Roberts in Elko, Nevada in 1981. This wonderful marriage has survived for more than 37 years.
He had a great love of humor and claimed that life was serious, but you didn’t have to be serious in living. He loved God and has always been an active church member. He was active in the LDS church for many years but was guided by the Holy Spirit to leave the LDS church and become a born again Christian on April 14, 1967. He has been an active member of the Granger Community Christian Church since 1967 and has served faithfully in many callings during that time.
He was an active adult Boy Scout leader for more than ten years and served the calling of Scoutmaster for the non LDS troop #259 for more than 7 years. He was presented the “District Award of Merit” award for outstanding service in Scouting in 1975.
He was an active member of Toastmasters International from 1973 to 1999.
Bill has written a 300 page autobiography of his life and hopes it will be meaningful to his descendants.
He is survived by his wife, Cuba; children David (Tammy), Michael (Brenda), Gail, Karen, Myste, Forest, Jeff Roberts (Eleni) and Pennie Roberts Hale (Calvin); 27 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and sister Mary Jean Kotter (Robert).
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 children, Donna Jean and Richard Dean.
Services will be held Monday, May 6, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road, where viewings will be held Sunday, May 5th, 6-8:00 p.m. and again prior to services from 9-9:45 a.m. Interment, Brigham City Cemetery.
Bill’s life has been richly blessed by God and he has, in turn, been a blessing to others.
