Heaven embraced a man of integrity, a master gardener, a great father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. On June 4, 2021 Alvin Phillips passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings. He loved serving others and was always out shoveling others sidewalks, mowing the lawns of neighbors, and sharing his produce from his beautiful garden. He loved his garden and every Spring loved planting and nurturing his bounty. It grew with some of his magic fertilizer, a green thumb, and love. He loved sharing all those wonderful fruits and vegetables with family, friends, and neighbors. He was generous with his love and service to others. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his companion Joy, to Dearborn Michigan Mission.
Alvin Phillips was born January 21, 1930 the son of John Clairmond Phillips and Catherine Butterfield, in an old brick home that later became the garden. Joy Nielson caught his eye as a young man and a year later they were married in the Salt Lake Temple in June 1949. They were blessed with three children, Gene, LeeAnn, and Gayle.
He was preceded in death by daughter LeeAnn; his parents; four brothers; two sisters; and a son in law Craig Hurst.
Survived by wife Joy; son Gene (Karen); daughter Gayle; brother Ken; and sister Dorothy; eleven grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
