Barbara Lynn Cowden Bissegger, passed away unexpectedly on August 16, 2020 at the University of Utah hospital in Salt Lake City Utah.
Barbara was born on October 18, 1940 to Edith Brown and Willis Owen Cowden. She grew up in the Sugarhouse area with her parents and sister Cheryl. She was part of the first graduating class of Highland High School in 1959.
Following high school, she met Milton R. Bissegger Jr. at their mutual workplace. They were married on May 26, 1961 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. They lived in various locations, due to Milt’s work, and their children were each born in a different move. Christie was born in Salt Lake City, Utah; Mike in Alexandria, Virginia; Linda in Buenos Aires, Argentina; David in Silver Springs, Maryland; and Jeff back in Salt Lake City, Utah. While in Argentina, the family was also able to welcome Silvia to their family as a foster daughter. Although Mom and Dad later divorced, she remained close with his side of the family.
Barbara was a stay at home mom until they returned to Utah. She then worked at Abbott Laboratories for over 20 years. Mom was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully held many callings in the church. Family meant everything to Barbara.
She is preceded in death by her parents; youngest son Jeff; along with his wife Heather and their dog Jack.
Barbara is survived by her sister Cheryl C. Robinson. Mom is also survived by her children and their families. Christie (Damian) Clayburn, and their children, AJ Clayburn, Scott Clayburn, Sister Madison Clayburn (Louisiana Baton Rouge mission); Mike (Kirsten) Bissegger and their children, Braden Bissegger (wife Alix, children Liam, Avery, Ellie, Jax) Haley Bissegger, Morgan Bissegger, Elder Colton Bissegger (Utah Layton mission), Dustyn Bissegger; Linda (Henry) Lucero and their children Alyssa Lucero (son, Chris Ricks); Monica Lucero, Tylen Lucer, Pyper Lucero; David (Kim) Bissegger, and their children Brittany Lisonbee (husband Nate, children Noah and Theodora), Bradley Bissegger, Alexandra Rogel (husband Juan Diego); Cassandra Bissegger. From her childhood to the present, there were always dogs in Mom’s life. She is also survived by many “grand-dogs”. Silvia (Brian) Stubbs remained a close lifelong friend. Barbara also had a close relationship with Jeff’s best friend, her “pseudo” son , CJ Storms.
A viewing will be held Thursday, August 20, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville. Please remember to wear a mask and practice social distancing. If attendance exceeds the building capacity due to COVID, we’d appreciate your patience in waiting outside until you can safely enter the building.
The funeral will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at noon, with a viewing from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the River Oaks 3rd Ward, 8950 South 1300 West, West Jordan. Thank you again for wearing a mask and practicing social distancing. She will be buried at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, next to her parents.
